Building Tech Capacity in Lebanon

At the beginning of December, Cambridge Coding Academy flew to Beirut to deliver our ‘train the trainer’ course at the UK Lebanon Tech Hub for teachers and coders from all parts of Lebanon including Beirut and Tripoli.

Teaching to teach to code

Most of our course offerings are targeted towards learners: people who want to learn new coding skills. This time though, we were addressing teachers.

Most of the attendants were school teachers of different levels. They came to perfect their IT lessons. Also attending were some software developers who wanted to get better at coaching interns and selecting candidates.

Lessons

For three days,  attendees learned techniques to plan, prepare and deliver programming courses through a mix of theoretical lessons and practical exercises.

One of these technique is live-coding: editing and running code in front of students. It is common nowadays to have lessons and presentations accompanied by slides. However, slides have very little potential for interaction. Live-coding on the other hand is a great tool to teach in a very interactive way.

Another of these techniques is the ADEPT framework. It is an effective method to ensure a lesson is structured using an optimal learning journey for students: analogies, diagrams, examples, definitions.
